Get to Know the Arts Market…

Arts MARK

In July 2011, Daniel Cohen started the Arts Market with a simple concept: give artistic entrepreneurs a permanent place to sell their wares at the most affordable rent possible. Today, the Arts Market has three locations, thousands of products, and 175 local artists, designers and creative souls!!

At 790 Queen St. East, opening day was on Wednesday, February 10th, 2016.

For the Arts Market, the transition into becoming an  integral part of a growing artistic community and connecting that community with Torontonians has been incredibly rewarding.

“The Arts Market has such a refreshing atmosphere! Each and every artist booth has its own unique character. I couple spend hours looking at every little thing! It is a very welcoming place, and I love supporting local artists!” – Brandon Kennedy, Toronto Artist and Riverside Customer

From 1-6pm on June 3rd, get moving with activities at our Munro Street Closure. Lend us your energy to power live tunes from our bicycle-powered music station provided by Tune Your Ride, including:

1:00pm: Enjoy Jessie Kussin’s bluesy tunes. Kussin’s vocal style draws air from somewhere older than now, somewhere blue and a little bit fragile. Drawing from magical realism, her songwriting explores narrative glimpses of a human kind such as impermanent love, blinding ambition & losing your sense of yourself in the crowd.  Jess is currently working on a collaborative recording project of new material.

2:00pm: Jessica Moore brings you soulful indie music. Moore is a Toronto singer-songwriter whose rich vocals and gentle lyrics are accompanied by her banjo, guitar, and body-percussion. Her songwriting is threaded through with the sensibility for language she has developed as an award-winning poet and translator. Drawing on indie, folk, and spiritual traditions, Jessica’s debut solo album, Beautiful in Red, presents a soulful collection of songs.

3:00pm: Benjamin Hermann is sure to hit a sweet spot amongst folk music lovers. His newest album ‘Windows Wide Open’ released on Roaring Girl Records, mixes subtlety and directness, blending distant instrumentation and strong finger-style guitar playing into a soundscape that compliments vocals delivered with careful nuance.

4:00pm: Great James’ fun interactive tunes will delight the whole family. James is a songwriter, software product manager, community organizer and Poppa who gets settled whenever he picks up wood and strings. He’s been writing and playing his tunes around Canada for 20 years.

PLUS at Munro, enjoy bicycle-themed activities hosted by Riverside businesses:

  • Expert advice from Riverside’s Switchback Cyclery and chat with the folks from Ward 28 bikes
  • Lemonade stand with donations going to 2017 Canada Africa Partnership Ride, and moss wall photobooth with portrait photography courtesy of Quince Flowers and the Riverside BIA
  • The ever-popular make-your-own smoothie by bicycle from Oma Chiropractic and Wellness Centre!!
Evolve Skate Camp

Also on Munro, check out Evolve Skate Camp for kids and teens: 1pm-3pm FREE Drop-in skateboard lessons for kids ages 6-14 years old.
