Change is in the Air in Riverside – Spring 2019

Change is in the air and the neighbourhood has been very active the past few months with all of the new businesses opening up. With the nicer weather slowly making its way, the neighbourhood has been out and about trying all of the new locations. Continue reading to keep up with all of the new changes in the neighbourhood and pick your next night out!

Blackbird Bakery (Opening in fall 2019!) – 635 Queen St. E 
One of Toronto’s most popular bakeries from Kensington Market is setting up shop in the east end and we can’t wait for the smell of fresh bread to be lingering the streets of Riverside! Visit them right across the street from Dark Horse Espresso!

Riverside Square (Opening soon!) – 667 Queen St. E
The first building in Riverside Square is nearing completion. We should be expecting residents moving in soon!

 

Good Karma (Open now!) – 689 Queen St. E
We’re more than happy to welcome Good Karma to Riverside! Their mission is to inspire mindful eating and connecting people to real food. Good Karma is a concept created to help you improve your body and mind from the inside and out. They’re committed to supporting small growers who are farming sustainably and be completely transparent with their customers about what’s in their food, and where it came from. If you’re looking for a healthy meal, Good Karma is definitely worth a try!

Nomads (Open now!) – 701 Queen St. E
It was sad having to say farewell to one of the only sushi spots in Riverside, but Nomads made it a little less sad. Welcoming a family owned Restobar to the neighbourhood! With their passion for great food, great service, and a great community, we’re sure they’ll be the perfect new addition to Riverside.

Animal Liberation Kitchen (Open now!) – 717 Queen St. E
ALK is here to bring you affordable vegan options! They’re a Toronto based, family-run food business inspired by animal rights and social justice. At Animal Liberation Kitchen, they don’t feel the need to pressure people into feeling guilty about eating meat; but simply offer a healthy and tasty alternative! Even though we only welcomed them to the neighbourhood in March, they’ve already been such a big part of our community and have joined us by participating in the Wine & Craft Beer Fest!

KABOOM Chicken (Closed now) – 722 Queen St. E
It is sad to say that KABOOM Chicken has closed its doors in Riverside, but you’ll be happy to know that they’re already on the hunt for a new location, and have plans on taking part in festivals this summer. 

‘ēst Restaurant (Opening this summer!) – 729 Queen St. E
We said goodbye to Sugar Loaf, but are welcoming ‘ēst restaurant by Chef Sean Macdonald; a Canadian Cuisine inspired by cultures within Canada. Chef Macdonald has won many awards and titles including the Alberta Regional Competition of the 2015 Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship, the title of the 2016 Game Changer where he was featured on the cover of BRANDED Magazine’s 2016 winter issue, and the Canadian title for the San Pellegrino Young Chef Competition leading him to represent Canada in the World Championships in Italy.
