Riverside Walks 2017: Wild Plants for Food & Medicine

May 6, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

| Free

Find out what to do with Nettles, Goosefoot, Knotweed – and more!! This is an opportunity to explore the Riverside neighbourhood on a wild springtime adventure with our local herbalist – Danette Steele. During this interactive walk, Danette will identify local plants and talk about how to forage using sustainable practices for food, medicine, and textiles. Many plants are also beneficial for pollinators, while others are great for cleaning up the air and soil. Stories and recipes will be shared about contemporary and historical uses for many of the plants that grace our parks, streets, gardens and laneways. Tasty herbal teas will be offered – so, please bring your own mug!

This popular walk will follow Riverside sidewalks, lane ways and parks as Danette shares information about the current and historical uses of plant medicine in the city. *1:30pm Gather at Queen St E and Saulter St for informal mingling and tasting herbal teas. *2pm Walk departs from Queen/Saulter Library steps (765 Queen St E).
