On November 26th, 2016, Riverside’s establishments will be opening their doors and inviting everyone for meet and greets and special happenings to help ring in the holidays. There will be a variety of fun activities all day with Riverside’s Shop the Neighbourhood promotion – culminating in Light Up Riverside, the neighbourhood’s annual Tree Lighting and cheer event. Here’s what’s in store for this special evening:

5pm-7pm: Light Up Riverside – Tree Lighting at 5:15pm – Let us know you’re coming!

  • Hosted outdoors in the Mustard Seed Courtyard
    791 Queen Street East
  • Sponsored by Baird MacGregor Insurance LP and the Riverside BIA
  • Photo booth with Santa (Pawelec Photo)
  • Warm refreshments provided by Tabule
  • Live music by Toronto Beach Chorale and On The Offbeat Music School

Music is such a key part of celebrating the joys of the season. With this blog we’re putting a spotlight on the performers that will grace the evening at Light Up Riverside:

Toronto Beach Chorale

First up will be the Toronto Beach Chorale, an auditioned adult concert choir whose singers share a passion for great classical choral music, a strong commitment to sharing the wonderful gift of music, and the aspiration to engage their community in these musical experiences. From traditional holiday classics to sing-a-longs, they have been a longtime performer at Light Up Riverside, and are always enjoyed!

On the Offbeat Music School

From 6-7pm, check out performances by On the Off Beat Music School. They offer private instruction with some of Toronto’s top musicians who are also highly qualified educators with music degrees or equivalents. Their passion is to provide students with opportunities to play in ensembles, from classical trios to jazz and rock bands, and to enhance their love of music through playing with their peers. At Light Up Riverside you’ll experience:

  • Anika, a teenage jazz sensation who has already performed professionally for various events across Toronto. Past performance venues include Hugh’s room, the annual ORTMA provincial convention, local community events such as Leslieville’s Wanderlust, St. Joseph’s Silent Soiree and many more. She also performs for her church regularly as well as accompanies her high school chamber choir. She currently studies jazz piano with Carissa Neufeld at On the Off Beat Music School and is a very talented dancer as well.
  • OTOB’s teenage rock band “The Treble Makers” have been together for three years and have performed at various events in the Leslieville area. They have performed for Leslieville’s Wanderlust Tree lighting ceremony, St. Joseph’s Silent Soiree as well as several performances at OTOB’s recitals and events.

Don’t miss these wonderful FREE performances and let us know you’re coming!

Aden Moir, right, and Ethan Nutt play with the Christmas tree lights Thursday night during the Light Up the Riverside holiday event at Mustard Seed Parkette.
